FIT is a European Thematic Network on Fire in Tunnels. FIT provides a European platform for dissemination and information of up-to-date knowledge and research on Fire & Tunnels. FIT represents 33 members from 12 European Countries.

Final workshop of the European projects: SafeTunnel - Sirtaki
organised by Centro Ricerche Fiat, ETRA, FIT Consulting, SITAF and supported by the European Commission on 20 & 21 December 2004 in Orbassano (Italy). Major results & conclusions of the 2 projects will be presented.

The International Symposium 'Safe & Reliable Tunnels' was an initiative of DARTS, FIT and UPTUN. The event attracted more then 250 participants for a two day active discussion on latest research achievements and ongoing developments.

International Symposium on Tunnel Safety and Security

Washington, DC on November 16 - 17, 2004.
Tunnels and other underground transport systems create unique safety and security design challenges for the prevention, mitigation and response to fires, hazardous materials, terrorist attacks, and vehicle accidents. NI2 and its co-sponsor, SP Swedish National Testing and Research Institute will host a group of American and European experts to discuss strategies, technologies, procedures, and R&D that will improve tunnel protection during this symposium. In tunnel demonstration of a folding anti-smoke escape gallery (GEPE system) on 27/04/2004

CvS énergies invites the tunnel professionals to the 'In Tunnel Demonstration' of a folding anti-smoke escape gallery (GEPE system).

With the support of the Republic and Canton of Jura (Switzerland) a full trial and demonstration (with smoke, air currents and evacuation exercise) of the GEPE system (Galerie d'Evacuation Parafumée Escamotable or a folding anti-smoke escape gallery for road, rail and subway tunnels will be organised on 27 APRIL 2004.

GEPE will takes place over 50 m in the Banné tunnel on the A16 motorway (Transjurane) on Tuesday, 27 April 2004. There will also be a joint exercise by the Porrentruy and the Delémont fire brigades, based on the scenario of an accident in the tunnel.

This demonstration is especially organized for the whole "Tunnel Community" (professionals). For more information and registration, click here.

FIT WP4 'Best practice for fire response management - part Road' available as FIT public working document

After the FIT WP3 'Compilation and guidelines for fire safe design in road, rail and metro tunnels', a first part of FIT workpackage 4 'Fire Response Management' is now available as a public working document for the section about road tunnels.

The FIT website changed his look and style to further improve the dissemination phase. Not only a web forum has been set up, the news section offers a quick overview of the most recent topics - inside and outside - the FIT activities. If you have interesting announcements or news to be made about fire & safety & tunnel with a non-commercial content, please forward your information to FIT@bbri.be.
