• Tunnels and other underground transport systems create unique safety and security design challenges for the prevention, mitigation and response to fires, hazardous materials, terrorist attacks, and vehicle accidents. NI2 and its co-sponsor, SP Swedish National Testing and Research Institute will host a group of American and European experts to discuss strategies, technologies, procedures, and R&D that will improve tunnel protection at an international Symposium on Tunnel Safety and Security in Washington, DC on November 16 - 17, 2004.
